A la Carte Services

Activities Resume for the Common App

The Common App allows students to report and rank up to 10 activities on their application, ranging from athletics to academic honors to paid work experience. In this section of the Common App, students only have 150 characters (not words) to describe their role in each activity. It can be overwhelming to choose and organize your Activities Section.

Whether you have hundreds of experiences to list or just a few to choose from, having the right strategy for categorizing and describing the activities is key.

This service includes three one-on-one sessions and offline editing/guidance. Sessions will typically span 2-4 weeks.

Activities Resume for the UC Application

The UC application allows students to report and rank up to 20 activities, ranging from athletics to academic honors to paid work experience. In this section of the UC application, students have 350 characters (not words) to describe their role in each activity. This section of the UC application is an excellent opportunity for your student to brag about their accomplishments, as well as skills, talents, and life lessons they have learned outside the classroom throughout high school. Thoughtful crafting of this section is crucial as admissions officers will view your student’s extracurricular involvement as a good indicator of how well they might function as a member of the UC student body and community.

This service includes three one-on-one sessions and offline editing/guidance. Sessions will typically span 2-4 weeks.

Common App Personal Narrative

The Common App represents over 1000 colleges and universities. The majority of which require students to submit a 650-word personal narrative essay. The goal of the Common App personal essay is to provide college admissions officers with a deeper understanding of who you are beyond your grades and test scores. It's an opportunity for you to showcase your unique personality, experiences, values, and aspirations. The essay should reflect your voice, creativity, and ability to self-reflect. Ultimately, it aims to help admissions officers assess your fit with their institution, your potential to contribute positively to their campus community, and your readiness for academic and personal growth in college.

This service includes three one-on-one sessions and offline editing/guidance. Sessions will typically span 4-6 weeks.

  • Session 1: Essay Brainstorming/Topic Selection

  • Session 2: Feedback and Discussion of First Draft

  • Session 3: Review of Final Suggestions and Edits

UC Application Personal Insight Questions (PIQ’s)

The UC system has its own application that does not overlap with the Common App. The “essay” portion of the UC application consists of 8 personal insight questions (PIQs). Applicants must answer 4 of these questions in their application. Each response is limited to 350 words. Through these PIQs, the UC application provides applicants the opportunity to present a narrative about their abilities, accomplishments, goals, and interests. These PPIQs should be approached differently from the Common App. With one-on-one support, we will help your student present their best selves.

Students must have their Activities Resume completed to be eligible for this package.

Includes four one-on-one sessions and offline editing/guidance. Sessions will typically span 6-8 weeks.

  • Session 1: PIQ Brainstorming and Topic Selection for 2 out of the 4 PIQs

  • Session 2: Feedback and Discussion of first 2 PIQs,s Topic Selection for the second 2 PIQs

  • Session 3: Feedback and Discussion of the second 2 PIQs.

  • Session 4: Review of Final Suggestions and Edits

Application Review (Pre-Submission)

Submitting a college application can be a daunting task. After putting in so much time and effort into your application, the worst thing would be to submit only to find out later that there were errors.

In this service, your application will be reviewed line by line, hunting for mistakes large and small. In addition to identifying errors, your application will be assessed to ensure you convey a clear, focused message.

While your writing (personal narrative, PIQs, and activities resume) will be reviewed and comments will be provided, this review service does not include any editing of your writing.
